Head Coach
Layne Jones
Coach Jones enters his 2nd year as the head coach of the Pacers after spending 2 seasons as an assistant coach for the Plainsmen and Coach Will Jones. Graduated from Tonkawa High School in 1991, high school basketball coach was Larry Case. Attended NOC Tonkawa and graduated there in 1993. Attended OSU from 1993-95 and was a student manager on the men’s basketball team that reached the Final Four in 1995. Finished undergraduate degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford in 1997.
Was an assistant coach at Elk City for 2 years under head coach Jim Deaton coached team that reached the semi-finals of 4A State Tournament. Became head boys basketball coach and girls softball coach at Hennessey in 1998. Coached fast-pitch softball team to first state tournament in school history, most wins in school history, and also coached slow-pitch team to a state semi-finals appearance. Was named Northwest Oklahoma coach of the year by the Enid News and Eagle in Fall of 2000. Also was named Middle West All State Coach in spring of 2000.
Coached for 2 years as an assistant at Los Fresnos High School in far south Texas and coached at Frisco High School in Frisco, Texas under Steve Specht for a team that set school record for number of wins and reached the 2nd round of the Class 4A playoffs. Also volunteered time with Chinese National basketball team in preparation for the 2004 Summer Olympic Games. Team was coached by Del Harris and included NBA star Yao Ming. Also broadcasts sports on the radio, most recently area high school football games of the week for Chisholm Trail Broadcasting on AM 1640 The Score.
Layne enjoys spending time with his wife, Tara and his 5 year old step-son, Blake. Hobbies include live music, OSU sports, playing guitar, running, hunting and hanging out with his 9 year old boxer, Josephine Marie. Layne is the son of Kathryn Jones in Tulsa, and the late Ralph Jones, both former Enid residents and public secondary and higher education administrators.
